     A teams power rating is a reflection of that teams past performance against the leagues hypothetical average team.  Power ratings are a better indication of a teams relative strength than simple won/loss percentages because they take into account additional factors, such as, a teams schedule strength and the margin of win or loss.  To predict the likely winner of any NFL game, adjust the home teams power rating by adding the home team advantage to the home team's power rating. Compare the home teams adjusted power rating to the away teams power rating. The team with the higher rating is the favorite to win and the difference is the expected point spread for the game. These Calculations are now done for you on my Spreads Page. New updates to this data are made on Tuesdays after the weeks full schedule has been played.

      Larger adjustments in the ratings are made at the beginning of the season.  Expect to see some fairly large variation in the ratings for some teams in the first two or three weeks.  By the 4th or 5th week, most teams will have found their level and the variations will be smaller.

      A little plug for this web site:  Many other sites can be found on the net which list power ratings.   No other site includes the graphs which plot each teams power rating throughout the season.  While a teams power rating is a good reflection of a teams past performance, the graphs can indicate where the team might be headed in the near future.  If you like what you see here, take a minute and send me an e-mail and let me know what you like about the site.
